Very good product!
My 5 year old son is obsessed with garbage trucks. When I saw this one online I thought this would be a perfect gift for him and his dad to put together over Christmas vacation. I was right. My son helped for a while, but my husband did put most of it together. This truck is played with almost on a daily basis by my 5 and 2 year old sons. I highly recommend this product.
This truck is not garbage
I bought this for my 2.5 year old, who, like most little boys, is fascinated by trucks. Obviously I assembled it for him, but really it wasn't that hard (maybe 1/2-hour). You do have to have a bit of mechanical ability and be able to follow directions--if you're scared of screwdrivers, this isn't for you. My son has put it through its paces (even riding on it) and loves it so much he even slept with it the first night!
The only negatives I can think of are that two of the holes didn't line up precisely (but I still made it work); I wish it came with more than one garbage can; and it can be a little loud on hardwood floors (probably not good for apartments).
On the positive side, this has the potential to be one of the most played-with toys in our house. After seeing how much my son enjoys it, my wife said to me, "Good job, daddy!"
Great fun, but poorly manufactured
After reading the other reviews on Amazon, I fully expected to spend an hour or more putting this truck together. My 3-year old anxiouly assisted me (mostly by screaming "let's put the wheels on now!"), but we had a great time building it. I wouldn't say this was any more difficult than a bookshelf from Ikea.
My gripes would be that some of the holes were drilled a little bit off so all the pieces are a bit askew when assembled. But the bigger problems were that a few of the drill holes were too small (not a big deal), or too big (kinda a bigger deal) and required a little fill to make the screws stay in. Then the dowels for the wheels were bent so that they were hard to fit into the slots and of course made it impossible for the wheels to spin properly after assembly. But wait... maybe the wheels couldn't spin properly because they are all of slightly different sizes!
What a disappointment. My son still loves the truck, and the price is right, but I would've gladly paid a little more for a better manufactured product.
