User Reviews about Museum Quality 45" T-Rex Skeleton Replica Assembly Set 1 10 Scale
Satisfaction!
I did an exhaustive review of similar Replica kits on the net.
I appreciate the intrinsic quality of this scale model as well as the way it was described on the net, handled and shipped by Timeless Toys.
Realistic Replica
I have had the same issues as far as assembly goes - it has to be glued together.
BUT - It is incredibly realistic and very cool to have as a decoration in my home theater room on the mantel. That is what this is for. Definitely NOT a toy to be assembled and reassembled.
The Difficult T-rex
Wow! This kit was a bit of a challenge and certainly should not be marketed towards the under 13 crowd given the issues rampant throughout its instruction and molding.
Having said that, after a day of ruminating over the kit and a dry-run assembly for parts fit and familiarity,
I noted all the apparent problems and knew others might crop up. So, I bought a tube of super-glue gel, borrowed a hair dryer, filled a large plastic bowl with ice water and kept a magnifying glass handy.
Stem connectors on some ill-fitting pieces needed to be shaved with a hobby knife to improve fit. After test-fitting and figuring out what was warped ( mostly rib sections ), the parts that were not in correct form were heated with the hair dryer until softened- were then dunked in the ice water while I held the part in its approximate correct configuration until it again hardened.
A magnifying glass, patience and a thoughtful approach ( okay- and a few beers ) saw me through this project.
It's sad to hear the reviews involving the disappointment of the kids these items are marketed towards. I think the manufacturer ( B.C. Bones ) has produced some quality stuff in the past and should reconsider the packaging touting the age recommendation as well as providing clearer, more comprehensive directions. Not everyone wants to wake up to a five star challenge Christmas morning, especially where children are involved.
If there are any readers who've thrown in the towel and haven't thrown T-rex parts out the window and would like to sell there bony debacle, e-mail me at tortuga12@suscom-maine.net.
