User Reviews about Star Wars Force FX Lightsaber Darth Maul
Great Toy, Sturdy and Sharp, but light went out
We played with it a few times and then a portion of the light went out and I had to return it. I loved how well it was built despite this - I loved all of the real metal parts on it and the jewel at the bottom of it. I just wish there wasn't the mechanical flaw in the light part - strange.
The Darth Maul FX Saber Should be on Your Short List
Simply put, the beautiful design and all-aluminum build should put the Darth Maul FX Lightsaber on your short list. This is a high-quality piece that skips the plastic parts in favor of a full brushed aluminum hilt that exhibits all of the fine details that make it look and feel like the real deal. The red alloy rotary switch to "activate" the wicked Sith trademark red blade adds an even cooler feel to a very attractive saber. The blade boasts brilliantly bright red illumination and the sound effects sampled from Darth Maul's Lightsaber in The Phantom Menace are clear and do not exhibit clipping in the audio as may be the case in other FX Lightsabers. The idle hum sounds dark and almost identical to that of the Darth Vader Lightsaber.
I find it hard to believe that the Darth Maul FX is not a first pick for all collectors, however this model may be easily overlooked due to the hype and more aggressive marketing of the Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker models. A perfect balance of beauty and feel, fans of the red bladed Sith lightsabers are sure to love the Darth Maul FX Lightsaber which has become my personal "Sith" saber of choice.
I plan to get the Yoda FX next in order "to bring balance to the force" of my collection! Consider the Darth Maul FX model, I see little room for disappointment with this top quality replica.
Get two of these!
Although the description doesn't mention it, this lightsaber comes with an adapter to attach two of these together. I researched this toy before buying it and found this out. I am also an owner of the Master Replica's Anakin Skywalker ForceFX Lightsaber. I missed out on the opportunity earlier to get the Darth Maul one until now. Hasbro bought them out so they are available again under the Hasbro brand but now you have to buy two to get the double-bladed lightsaber.
The great thing about this toy is with two of them, you can battle with a friend (two swords), or if you have a third lightsaber like I do, then you can do sword verses bo staff. These are not meant for heavy duty battling, so be careful not to break them. They can take a small beating though. The handle is well made and doesn't feel cheap. The knobs on the handle don't interfere with spinning it around or holding it. To turn it on, you need to twist one of the knobs, not slide or press it. The blade makes only one sound when clashing whereas my Anakin blade makes several. It still has power-up, power-down and swing noises too, and the light shoots out from the handle when powering up and goes back in when powering down (looks perfect in the dark). When the two blades are attached together, it is quite long at about 7 ft. 4 in. so don't expect a child to be able to spin it around unless they are pretty tall. The adapter is threaded and the two blades screw onto it. When they are removed from the adapter, the battery will fall out unless you put the end caps on the single blades. You can use the adapter as one of the endcaps if you want. The blades are very vibrant in color and look spectacular - better than my blue Anakin blade in my opinion.
Bottom line, if you are on the fence about this, go for two of them!
